XML(Extensible Markup Language) and HTML(Hypertext Markup Language) are both markup languages that stem from an older language called SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language). HTML is an older language that was established to create web pages and link different pages. As technology continued to advance, XML came around. XML has the capability to store larger amounts of data than HTML which became important to companies that dealt with electronic commerce. Both languages are still used and are very useful for anyone creating web pages. A person might use XML more if they are storing large lists and data, but for basic web pages someone would use HTML.
