Walls and Sedaris are writing from their own perspective and using their version of the events in their lives in order to convey a specific impression of their fathers to readers. For this assignment, you will choose a significant person in your life and write a mini memoir inspired by Walls and Sedaris.

Once the focus is established, develop it fully. This is your angle, your spin on the topic. It will rescue you from being trapped in chronological telling. For example, if you want to give your readers an impression of how eccentric your mother was throughout your life, then you will want to share the stories of how she let you sleep in your tree house for 2 months and when she came to school for pickup dressed as a pumpkin for Halloween.
