Direct: the writer makes direct statements about a character’s personality and tells what the character is like.
Indirect: the writer reveals information about a character and his personality through that character’s thoughts, words, and actions, along with how other characters respond to that character, including what they think and say about him.
Write a journal entry (do not list!) answering the following questions about characterization in your book:
(Be sure to include at least two (2) quotations with page numbers from your reading.

- Does the author use more direct or indirect characterization? Explain.
- Give an example of each and tell why it is direct or indirect.
(Does it show physical appearance, actions, dialogue or thoughts?)
- Are there any characters that are more developed than others? Why do you think that is?
