Create Fallacies

Now that you have demonstrated that you can identify fallacies, here
is your chance to create some fallacies. All you need to do is provide
an example of each of the following fallacies. I’ve include a brief
definition to remind you of their meaning. The best ones from this class
will be added to the fallacy test banks and used for next semester’s
class. Yes, this is a bit of “crowd sourcing.

Ad hominem — These fallacies occur when an acceptance or rejection of a concept is rejected based on its source, not its merit.

Bandwagon — refers to popular opinion or majority sentiment in order to provide support for a claim.

Circular Reasoning — This type of fallacy occurs when the conclusion of an argument is assumed in the phrasing of the question itself.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc –These fallacies occur
when it is assumed that, because one thing happened after another, it
must have occurred as a result of it.

False Dilemma –These fallacies occur when someone is only given two choices for possible alternatives when more than two exist.

Slippery Slope — suggests that if one step or
action is taken it will invariably lead to similar steps or actions, the
end results of which are negative or undesirable.

Hasty Generalization –These fallacies occur when a very broad application is applied to a single premise.
