In all honesty, I find logos to be challenging. Usually, most people trust me and therefore I am credible. I also can sympathize with others very well. However, sometimes having the right logical statements in mind is difficult and often times when I try to communicate my positions to others my words get fumbled and I am not logical. I need to work on this because as Burns says, “The proclamation of the Word is essential” ( Burns, 212).

Jesus demonstrated excellent ways to speak and teach others using logos, pathos, and ethos. For example, Jesus is the ultimate truth and He is God so there is no other greater credible source. In Matthew 28:18 he says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” He was also very compassionate. In Matthew 20 it tells a story of two blind men who asked Jesus to have mercy on them and verse 34 says, “And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.” And of course, Jesus is the essence of logos. In Matthew 22 the Sadducees tried to trap Jesus when arguing over whose wife a widow will be in the resurrection. However, Jesus showed them their false assumption when he said in verse 29, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.”

An activity I might incorporate during youth ministry could be to have the youth split into separate teams and then have them compete in a maze. Only one person per team goes in the maze, but he or she is blindfolded. In order to make it through, the teammates have to tell him if he should go left, right, etc. This game can help a lesson on the importance of good communication with others and how sometimes yelling doesn’t solve anything.
